Space shuttle as transporter

The Space shuttle is mainly used for transport to and from the Space station ISS.

The Space shuttle was in service from 1981 to 2011.

There where 2 Space shuttles fatal incidents.

  • Shuttle Colombia (STS-107) was burned during reentry on February 1, 2003 due a damaged and failing heatshield.
  • Shuttle Challenger (STS-51-L) did explode on January 28, 1985 after 73 seconds in the launch, due a leakage in the O-ring of one of the booster rockets.

The reusable Space Shuttle was used from 1981 (STS-1, Colombia) until 2011 (STS-135, Atlantis).
